What is the Numicon Intervention Programme?

  • The Numicon Intervention Programme has been developed to support Every Child Counts but is applicable to any school interested in maths intervention for 6-11 year olds working at KS1 curriculum level.
  • The Intervention lasts 12 weeks, with 2 or 3 lessons a week, depending upon pupil’s needs.
  • The Numicon Intervention Programme is designed to be conducted by trained TAs and a supporting teacher.

What will the sessions cover?

This training focuses specifically on the materials needed to carry out the Numicon Intervention Programme including diagnostic assessment. We introduce you to resources for developing mathematical understanding and further develop your understanding of intervention and how our resources best meet the needs of individual children and whole schools, through a rigorous and proven intervention. Having completed this training, you will be able to carry out the Numicon Intervention Programme and/or assist support teachers or teaching assistants within your setting with the implementation of the programme. We will support and facilitate you to effectively facilitate the intervention with individual and small groups of children. You will feel confident in the on line resources, assessment, and practical resources working closely with other practitioners and school leaders ensuring the best possible start in mathematics education for all children.
